An Old Song

Some interesting things happen when you move. You have to develop new systems for organizing your stuff. Clothes go from the closet to the drawer and vice versa. Books get left behind. New friends and relationships. You have to learn a new place, and you become aware of habits that you didn’t know you had. You lose stuff.

But, you also find stuff.

Or, at least, I did. I didn’t even know I had this much stuff that I didn’t know I had. So, while some of the old-become-new articles may be useful in a dorm hall (airsoft, anyone?), there was one discovery that trumps the rest in terms of sentimental value.

Some time a go, a few of my friends and I decided it would be fun to start a band. We wrote one song, and in response to it’s sheer glory, we hung up the instruments for good. We had created something so breathtaking, so wondrous, that anything else would be rubbish in comparison. The song that follows is not that song.

@therealjorge, @taraparrales, and @jannamarie3 wrote this song. It may not be breathtaking or wondrous, but we had fun creating it.

Maybe I’ll start writing music again.

Don’t believe in love at first sight
If you leave, with time, I’ll be fine
You never made my heart skip a beat
And I don’t care if planets align

I don’t know what to say
You didn’t take my breath away
When I say ‘I love you,’ it’s true

:chorus:
Wherever I go, I want you beside me
So I will love you with all that’s inside me
And I don’t know where life is going
But I will live it with you

You didn’t sweep me off of my feet
You’re not the one who makes me complete
I never saw your face in the stars
You didn’t tell me all the right things

I don’t know what to say
I don’t dream about you all day
You’re not perfect, but you’ll do

:chorus:

You’re the only one I think of
And you’ll always be enough
I will love you for who you are
Everyone will love how we love

Look, I don’t care what you or anyone else says. That song is pure gold, haha.

You know, the concept itself is solid. But it’s clearly written by a group of friends that had virtually no experience in songwriting. Let’s at least say this. Once we become master songwriters, we’ll need to reincorporate this one incredible line into our incredible songs.

“You’re not perfect, but you’ll do.”

    Good memories.

You could probably just sell that line to John Mayer…
Also, maybe it’s a girl thing, but I love moving and throwing away about half my stuff (all the stuff I swore I couldn’t part with at the last move… and right to the trash).

@clinton_allen How about this for a legit snap back?

Hard to feel like anything could ever be wrong. Last day of #Epic2011, and I'm ready to come home.

Camp games!
